Hiram A. Lewis, age 89, of Marshall formerly of Melvindale, died May 27 , 2009 at Tendercare of Marshall. Hiram was born Feb. 6, 1920 in Keokee, VA to Charles and Dora Bell (Cox) Lewis. He grew up in the Virginia's and was a graduate of Lincoln Memorial University. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps during WWII.After his honorable discharge he was an English teacher for a school year in Virginia. He then moved to Detroit where he worked as an engineer for Chrysler Corporation for 30 years until retiring in 1975. After retiring from Chrysler he went to work for Michigan Bell Telephone in their Allen Park office until the mid 1980's. He was married to Billie Celeste Hudson in the 1950's. She preceded him in death in 1999. He moved to Marshall from the Detroit Downriver area after her death. Hiram was a member of the United Auto Workers and served as a representative for them. He grew grapes in his garden in Melvindale and made wine from them. He also created "home brew
