Helga Anderson, 77, of Marshall, passed away peacefully on May 16, 2024, at the Villas of Winston Court.
She was born on April 3, 1947, to Rudolf and Johanna (Behrendt) Gofredo in Stolzenau an der Weser, Germany. In 1952 they immigrated to the United States. After moving to Michigan, she attended Belding Area Schools graduating in the Class of 1965. In 1967 she earned an Associate’s degree from Concordia Lutheran Junior College. Helga then attended Central Michigan University where she earned a Bachelor’s degree in Education. While in college, Helga met Kent Anderson at Christ the King Lutheran Church. Their first date was chaperoning a hayride. Helga and Kent were married on June 28, 1969, at Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Belding, Michigan.
Helga taught at Mar Lee School in Marshall, Michigan. She retired after 29 years of educating and inspiring young minds. After retirement Helga spent several Februarys on Hilton Head Island, a favorite place of hers. She also made a number of return trips to Germany.
A parishioner of Christ Lutheran Church, Helga’s faith was strong. She loved dogs and horses, enjoyed knitting, painting rocks, and taking her grandsons fishing.
Helga is survived by her loving spouse of 54 years Kenton; sons, Steven (Amy) Anderson of Battle Creek, Michigan and Brian (Kristen) Anderson of Richland, Michigan; six grandsons, Derek, Evan, Samuel (fiancé Kelsey), Luke, Nicklas, and Mark; great grandson, Carter; sister Jutta (Robert) Stocks of Prosperity, South Carolina; brother Richard (Judy) Gofredo of Jacksonville, Florida; and brother-in-law, Richard Anderson of Escanaba, Michigan.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Visitation will be held Tuesday, May 21, 2024, 5:00 pm - 8:00 pm at Kempf Family Funeral & Cremation Services, 723 US Hwy 27 N, Marshall, Michigan 49068.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, May 22, 2024, 11:00 am at the Christ Lutheran Church, 440 West Dr N, Marshall, MI 49068, with Rev. David Moran officiating. Visitation is available one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow at Oakridge Cemetery.
