Helen Nina (Stuart) McAuliffe

August 29, 1926 — April 1, 2006

Helen joined her husband Lawrence "Mac" McAuliffe peacefully on Saturday morning April 1, 2006.Helen was born August 29, 1926 in Marshall at Oaklawn Hospital to Rachel (Gillette) and William Allen Stuart. Helen and her sister Ellen (Stuart) Reyer were the first surviving twins born at Oaklawn delivered by Dr. Claude S. Hale, as celebrated during the hospital''s 80th anniversary last summer.Helen attended Marshall Schools and Alma College, where she met and married her husband "Mac" on April 27, 1946. She and Mac resided in Berkley, Michigan, where she was very active in Our Lady of LaSalette Church, where she was a lay minister and an active school PTA member. They then semi-retired to their home at Stuart Lake in Marshall. After moving to Marshall, Helen worked in the insurance field at Cartey-Buckenberger Agency in Marshall. Helen''s passions were gardening, needlework, cooking, golf, bowling and traveling, especially to see her children and grandchildren. Helen is survived by her sister Ellen (Stuart) Reyer, her daughters; Suzanne (Mike) Williams of Dallas, Texas, Leslie McAuliffe of Denver, Colorado, and Mary (John) Parker of Ann Arbor, Michigan her sons; Bob (Barbara) McAuliffe of Wilton, Connecticut, Larry (Kate) McAuliffe of Battle Creek, Michigan and John (Cheryl) McAuliffe of Marshall, Michigan. She has thirteen grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence, her parents, brothers Jack and Billy Stuart and sister Suzanne Stuart.Visitation will place at the Craig K. Kempf Funeral Home on Tuesday from 9:00am-9:00pm with family present from 2:00pm-4:00pm and 6:00pm-8:00pm. With a Rosary service being held at 6:00pm. A funeral mass will take place at 11:00am on Wednesday at Saint Mary Catholic Church with Reverend Father Stephen Naas officiating. Interment will follow at Oakridge Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Tendercare Residents Council. Assistance with memorials is available at the Kempf Funeral Home.
