Harriet Jean Rugg

Harriet J. Rugg, 88, passed away on February 25, 2024, at her home in Bellevue, MI. Born on June 20, 1935, she was the daughter of Ernest “Jack” and Estella (Minty) Mahoney. Harriet married her beloved husband, Frederick W. Rugg on September 5, 1954. He proceeded her in death on March 11, 2008.

Harriet was a graduate of Bellevue High School, class of 1953, where she met and married her high school sweetheart Frederick W. Rugg. Together, they raised two children, David and Kathy.  

She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, relishing in her role as a homemaker. Harriet was known for her green thumb and took great pride in the many flowers and plants around her home. She loved traveling with Fred and they enjoyed numerous cruises over the years.

Harriet was a member of Overflow Church in Battle Creek. She was a faithful servant and true follower of Jesus. She enjoyed singing in the choir for many years and participated in church activities where she made countless lifelong friends. She will be forever cherished. We celebrate her overwhelming joy as she now worships God in His glorious presence. 

Harriet is survived by her loving children David (Rhonda) Rugg of Battle Creek and Kathy (Jeff Scarbrough) Flint of Bellevue. Her grandchildren, Stephanie (Chris) VanHoose, Jennifer Shultz, Mitchell (Robin) Rugg, Krystal Flint and her great-grandchildren, Monea Rugg, Reece VanHoose, Nadia VanHoose, Isaac Shultz, Eli Shultz, Milania Westerman, Easton Rugg, Rylen Rugg and Scarlett Owen. 

She is preceded in death by her parents, brothers and sisters. 

Visitation will be held on Thursday, March 7, 2024, from 10am-12pm at Overflow Church, 3515 W. Michigan Ave, Battle Creek. Funeral service will commence at 12pm with Pastor Jeffrey Davis officiating. Burial will take place at Floral Lawn Memorial Gardens directly after the service. 

Donations in memory of Harriet can be made to the Food Pantry of Battle Creek.
