Harold F. McLainHarold F. McLain, age 91, of Marshall died Thursday, April 6, 2006 at Oaklawn Hospital.Mr. McLain was born on June 11, 1914 in McBain to Frank H. and Ethel (Shreve) McLain. Harold had lived in the Marshall area the majority of his life, living in Ohio for a short time. He attended school in Marshall and then Barber College in Detroit. He returned to Marshall and worked in the Bob Jones Barber Shop for several years. Harold then went to work for the Kellogg Company in Battle Creek. He served the company for 26 years, working as an Auditor. He retired in 1976.On June 1, 1938, he married the former Florence E. Wolford in Coldwater. She preceded him in death on May 27, 1996.He was a member of the Kelloggs 25 year club and the Wilder Creek Archery Club. He helped to create the archery range, as well as helping in the construction of several building at Wilder Creek Conservation Club. Harold enjoyed traveling with his wife and children, traveling all across the United States. Following his wife''s death, he continued to travel with his children and grandchildren, going on spring trips to Florida and fall trips up north. He owned a summer cottage on a lake in Indiana and enjoyed taking his grandchildren there to fish and just to be with them.Harold was extremely handy. He had a love for woodworking and tools that he shared with his grandchildren. He taught them the proper way to use a tool and the care that is required to insure that it will remain in good condition. He also enjoyed working on automobiles.He is survived by a daughter, Mary Jean McLain Hoffman of Marshall; son, Jerry (Joyce) McLain of Springfield; grandsons, Andy (Brianna) Hoffman, Will (Jenny) Hoffman , Jacob Hoffman, Chad Hoffman, Alex (Ashley) Hoffman, Paul (Jessica) McLain and Scott McLain (serving in the Navy, stationed in San Diego) ; great grandchildren, Bradyn Hoffman, Christopher McLain and Kyle McLain (due in May); sister-in-law, Gladys McLain; and numerous nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by brothers, Don and Omer McLain, sister, Dorothy Holt; nephew, Bill Holt and niece, Doris Chadderdon.Visitation will be Sunday at the Craig K. Kempf Funeral Home with the family receiving friends from 1:00 to 3:00 and 5:00 - 7:00. A funeral service will be held 2:00 PM Monday, April 10, 2006 at the funeral home with Reverend Kelly Hadlich officiating. Interment will follow in Oakridge Cemetery. Serving as pall bearers will be his grandsons. Friends who wish may make memorial contributions to the Calhoun County Humane Society. Assistance with memorials is available at the funeral home.
