Gerald Hookway

Gerald "Gary" Hookway, 66, of Battle Creek, Michigan, passed away on February 15, 2023 at home surrounded by his loving family.

Gary was born on November 28, 1956 to Paul and Mariam (Fransico) Martinez in Battle Creek, Michigan. Gary worked as a laborer for many years in various factories throughout Battle Creek, working the longest for National Sign and Signal.

On May 21, 2004 Gary was united in marriage to Laura Kader in Battle Creek, Michigan. Gary was a softball pitcher in the Battle Creek area for many years. He enjoyed fishing, working on cars, his yard, computer games, and watching the University of Michigan and Western Michigan University sports teams.

Gary is survived by his loving spouse Laura; children, Casey Hookway of Parma, Michigan, and Drew Hookway of Warsaw, Indiana; step-children, Paul (Terri Ebbs) Slone of Battle Creek, Michigan, Mitchell Slone of Charlotte, Michigan, and Gregory (Jennifer) Slone of Battle Creek, Michigan; six grandchildren and three great grandchildren; siblings, John (Sheila) Martinez of Deerfield Beach, Florida, Michael  Martinez of Marshall, Michigan, Jeani  Martinez of Quincy, Michigan, and Teresa Lilly of Springfield, Missouri; cousins, Joanie (Mick) Damon of Marshall, Michigan, and Sharon (Rex) Simmons of Massilon, Ohio.

He was preceded in death by his parents; aunts Rosie Thomas and Lenora Francisco.

A private celebration of life will be held at a later date. Burial will take place at Ft. Custer National Cemetery in Augusta, Michigan.

Memorials are suggested to the Calhoun County Animal Center, 165 Union St. S, Battle Creek, Michigan 49014.
