Gerald K. Dunlap, 93, passed away peacefully on December 24, 2021, at Glen Arbor Hospice, Battle Creek, MI. Gerald was born July 24, 1928 to Glen and Mary (Jensen) Dunlap in Jackson, MI. He married Doris Loretta Schultz on October 28, 1950 in Jackson, MI. They were together until her passing in 2018.
Together with Doris he built their loving home with a beautiful yard and various flower and vegetable gardens in Battle Creek, MI where he lived for 68 years. Gerald cared for his family and home with pride and passion. His family, work and home were his priorities always finding time for us kids.
Gerald was a kind, caring, and considerate family man. He was a man of integrity who always had a kind word for everyone. He was very resourceful and self-taught in many areas. He enjoyed vacationing with his family in North Michigan and Canada. Especially memorable are memories of camping on the beach in the UP, which the whole family enjoyed.
Gerald had a rewarding 41-year career with Consumer Power Company. He started out in Construction Building Sub Stations at various locations throughout the state. After Construction he transferred to the Bulk Power Repair Department. This involved working with all major generating power equipment ranging from coal and gas-powered steam plants, hydroelectric dams, and nuclear power plants. He ended his career as a Supervisor in Distribution. He retired in August, 1990.
Gerald is survived by his sons; Glen A (Barbara), John W (Vera), George K (Beth), and Daniel J, all of Battle Creek, MI; and daughter, MaryAnne (Dunlap) Hill of Marshall, MI; 8 grandchildren; 2 step grandchildren; 12 great-grand-children; 3 step great-grand-children; 2 step great- great-grand-children. Gerald is also survived by his brother Duane (Marie) Dunlap of Grand Haven, MI; his sister Elizabeth Dunlap, Dayton OH; and niece Jean Stoddard, Grand Haven, MI.
Gerald was preceded in death by his parents; his grandson William Dunlap; Son-In-Law Ric Hill; Daughter-In-Law Kathy Dunlap, and beloved wife of 67 ½ years, Doris Dunlap.
Gerald will be greatly missed by his entire family, friends, and all who knew him.
A Memorial Celebration of Life will be held for Gerald on March 19, 2022, beginning at 1:00pm with a luncheon immediately following at Kempf Family Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 723 US Hwy 27N, Marshall, MI 49068.
