Garnet Elise Baker,73, of Battle Creek, died on Friday, July 30, 2021 at Allegiance Hospital of Jackson.
Garnet was born in Battle Creek, MI on November 11, 1947 to James Baker and Leona E. Hoover. She graduated from Lakeview High School in 1965. Garnet worked for the Battle Creek Township Police Department and then gained employment at the Calhoun County Sherriff Department in Marshall as a jail deputy. Upon retirement, Garnet had earned the rank of Sergeant.
Garnet enjoyed horses, hunting, fishing and traveling. Garnet was active in the local Fraternal Order of Police Wayne B. Fitch Lodge where she held the office of Trustee for many years. She held many offices over the years and was sent to the state convention as a delegate. After retirement, Garnet continued to assist the Sheriff’s department for several years documenting and assisting with the ALURT dive team and recreational safety classes.
Garnet is survived by her brother Jim Baker (Cheryl Moore). She was proceeded in death by her parents, her sister Sandra Mann, and her step dad, John Paul Jones.
