Frank W. Murphy

Frank W. Murphy, 90, of Marshall, passed away on Wednesday, April 12, 2023 at home surrounded by his loving family.

He was born on August 23, 1932 to Kenneth and Naomi (Eichele) Murphy in Olivet, Michigan. He was a 1950 graduate of Marshall High School. On December 21, 1973 he married Joyce (Holloway) Anderson in Marshall.

A lifelong farmer. Frank was milking 160 cows, with a total of 600 cattle and farming 1200 acres. He was a member of Wilder Creek Conservation Club in Marshall. Frank was the first recipient of the Bill Holt Award at Marshall High School for recognition of outstanding sports and academic achievements. He was affectionately known as the Rock by his teammates. For many years, Frank enjoyed bowling at Marshall Lanes. He was a very generous man as he would shop for gifts (books) to give away and make a point to visit acquaintances in nursing homes. He will be fondly missed for his playing practical jokes with friends and especially April Fool’s Day jokes on Joyce. His greatest joy first and foremost was his family, but he also loved being a farmer.

Frank is survived by his loving spouse of 49 years Joyce Murphy, his children, Michael (Patty) Murphy of Marshall, Robert Murphy of Grand Rapids, Timothy (Tammy) Murphy of Marshall and Steven Murphy of Marshall; his stepchildren, Deborah (Jeff) Minniear of Colon and Douglas (Patricia) Anderson of Tuscon, Arizona; his 19 grandchildren and 38 great grandchildren; and his brother, Richard  Murphy of Marshall.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Visitation for Frank will be held on Saturday, April 15, 2023, from 10:00 am - 11:00 am at Grace Baptist Church (500 Cosmopolitan Marshall, Michigan 49068) with the memorial service to follow at 11:00 am at the church. Pastor Brandon Crawford officiating.
