F. Rachel Soebbing

F. RACHEL SOEBBING F. Rachel Soebbing, age 87, of Marshall, passed away on Tuesday, May 30, 2006 at Battle Creek Health Systems. She was born to Florence (Horn) and Marion Stubblefield on her mother''s birthday on August 8, 1918 on the family farm near McLean, Illinois. Her ancestors had come from England and Germany, eventually settling in Funks Grove in Central Illinois in 1735. She graduated from McLean High School, and attended University of Illinois. She also attended Brown''s Business College. After graduation, prior to her marriage, she worked at the Sloan Medical Clinic in Bloomington. She married Paul Leo Soebbing on September 3, 1939 in St. Louis, MO. They were in the Air Force and lived in various places in the U.S., the Territory of Hawaii, and Edinburgh, Scotland. After Paul retired from the Air Force in 1957 he worked for State Farm, and the family moved to Marshall in 1962. They were the parents of four children, Dennis (Bobbie Stankiewicz ) Soebbing of Davenport, Iowa, Joyce Soebbing of Marshall, Carol (Dave) Bagi of Marshall, and David (Karen) Soebbing of Ann Arbor, all of whom survive them. She is also survived by five grandchildren, Ann Bagi of Marshall, Christopher Soebbing of Davenport, Iowa and Sarah, Dan and Hannah Soebbing all of Ann Arbor. Rachel was preceded in death by her husband Paul on June 25, 1978, and by her sister Frances Keneipp in 2004. She loved horses, books, playing bridge with friends, watching basketball, her beloved Chicago Cubs playing baseball, and watching golf or playing at the Marshall Country Club. Friends may call today, Thursday, at Craig K. Kempf Funeral Home from 5PM to 8PM where the family will be present to greet visitors and share memories. Services to celebrate her life will be held Friday at 10AM at Kempf Funeral Home with Rev. Howard Lyman officiating. On Saturday morning, the family will receive friends from 10AM to Noon at the Carmody-Flynn Williamsburg Funeral Home in Bloomington, Illinois . Graveside committal services will be held at Mt. Hope Cemetery in McLean,IL at 1PM Saturday. The family suggests that friends who wish to make memorial contributions direct them to The Fountain Clinic or Calhoun County Humane Society.
