Family Tribute
On May 22nd 2022 in Jackson, Michigan, just eight days after her eighty-second birthday, Ethel Haley passed away with her family surrounding her. She passed knowing she was loved and would be greatly missed.
Ethel was born in Kentucky on May 14th, 1940. She married the love of her life, John Haley, and they had one son, Dan. Ethel was a caregiver her entire life. She was the oldest of 11 siblings who she helped care for, worked in a baby nursery, raised her son, took care of her husband with cancer, helped raise her two granddaughters, babysat countless children, and fiercely loved those she cared for. She was an avid Rummy player, fantastic cook, and knew how to keep a home tidy.
She took care of her own family and friends before she looked after herself. Her mottos in life included “everything has a home”, “if you’re going to do it, do it right”, and “you gotta have faith”. She loved everyone as if she were their own grandmother so much that she is grandmother to dozens of people in the Wyandotte area. She also had a profound love for her granddaughters and took pride in their accomplishments, which were a reflection on herself.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband John Haley; her loving mother, Mabel Huddleston; brothers, Lewis and Johnny Huddleston; sisters, Retha (Jimmy) Davis and Freda (Chuck) Sircy; sister-in-law, Kathy Huddleston; nephew, Jay Davis, friend, Lena Posey; her faithful dog, Gus; and many friends and relatives.
She will be missed by her siblings Ruth May, Lloyd Huddleston, Charles (Carlene) Huddleston, Jean (Johnny) Parks, Patsy (Donnie) Hatfifeld, Francis (Larry) Partin; sister-in-law Barbara Huddleston; Aunt Glenna; cousin and best friends Don and Judy Huddleston; friend and Olympia’s mother Betty Smirnes; and many more cousins, nieces, and nephews. She will be missed by so many more loved ones, friends, and honorary grandkids due to what a great person she was.
