Eric O. Furu

Eric O. Furu, 78 of Marshall died on Tuesday November 7, 2006 at Oaklawn Hospital.Mr. Furu was born on August 9, 1928 in Newton Township to Haakon and Bessie (Gleason) Furu. He graduated from Charlotte High School in 1947. On December 28, 1949 he married the former Joyce Allen in Tekonsha. She survives.Mr. Furu was a well known dairy farmer and a leader in Calhoun County. He was secretary of the Homer Local Michigan Milk Producers and was named Outstanding Young Co-Operator. He also served on the Calhoun County Soil Conservation District Board of Directors as well as the Calhoun County D.H.I.A. Board of Directors.Mr. Furu was also on the Michigan Holstein Association Board of Directors and served as the chairman for the National Holstein Association Convention held in Michigan in 1984. He was a 4-H Leader for many years, and was also a judge for Dairy Cattle and Showmanship classes. Mr. Furu was selected to participate in the initial Kellogg Young Farmer Leadership Study Group. He also served on the Calhoun County Board of Commissioners. He was a member of the Marshall United Methodist Church.He is survived by his wife, Joyce of Marshall, two daughters Marcia Furu of Okemos, and Elizabeth (Robert) Nocella of Albuquerque New Mexico, four grandchildren Jenny Dobbertien, Liam Dobbertien all of Arizona, Lucas Nocella, and Erica Nocella, all of New Mexico and a sister Dorothy Nichols of Florida. He was preceded in death by his parents, twin brother Donald, a brother Wardel, and sisters Arlouene, Julia and Shirley.Visitation will take place on Friday at the Craig K. Kempf Funeral Home from 2pm-8pm, with family present to receive friends from 2pm-4pm and 6pm-8pm. Funeral services celebrating his life will take place at 11am on Saturday at the Marshall United Methodist Memorial contributions may be made to the Marshall United Methodist church or the Alzheimer''s Association.
