Battle Creek

Elizabeth Ann Mowry of Battle Creek passed away peacefully on July 18, 2023, at Marshall Nursing and Rehab surrounded by her loving family.

Elizabeth “Liz” was born on January 25, 1943, in Chicago, Illinois. She is the daughter of Omar and Louise (Green) Coffman. The family moved to Battle Creek in 1944, and she lived there for the rest of her life. In 1961 she graduated from Harper Creek Community Schools. On August 25, 1962, she married William A. Mowry, he survives.  They spent 60 wonderful years together.

Liz was a homemaker while her children were young, then was employed by Harper Creek Community Schools in Food Service for 15 years, retiring in 1993. She also volunteered at Binder Park Zoo. Liz and William enjoyed traveling after retirement, spending 22 winters in the Southwest, but never left before spending Christmas with their family. She also enjoyed cooking, gardening, and spending all the time she could with her family.

Liz is survived by husband, William Mowry; son, Alan (Kim) Mowry of Burlington; daughter, Cheryl (Scott) Cunic of Burlington; grandchildren, Sara Mowry, Michael W. Cunic, Amy Mowry (Cole Trine), Morgyn Cunic (Tyler Sommers); great-granddaughter, Myla Trine; sister, Carolyn Cochran of Kalkaska, Michigan; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Bill and Bob Richardson and brother-in-law, John Cochran.

At Elizabeth’s request, cremation has taken place and no services will be held at this time, the immediate family will hold a private graveside service at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Binder Park Zoo or the charity of one’s choice.  We would like to give a special thanks to Marshall Nursing and Rehab.
