Elizabeth Anne (Woods) Huggett

Elizabeth Anne (Woods) Huggett, 91, of Marshall, Michigan passed away on February 22, 2022. Liz was born July 28, 1930, to Henry P. and Mabel L. (Bellairs) Woods. She attended St. Mary Grade School in Marshall through the eighth grade and graduated from Marshall High School in 1948. Liz attended Nazareth College and Borgess School of Nursing in Kalamazoo, Michigan. She married George A. Huggett on Oct. 18, 1952, at St. Mary Church in Marshall.

Younger in life, Liz spent ten years as a 4 H Club member. Later, she became a boy scout den mother, leader of campfire girls, and co-leader of girl scouts. Liz was a teacher’s helper for twenty years in Madelon Waidely’s first grade class at Shearman Elementary School. She was a faithful member of St. Mary Catholic Church and the Altar Society. Liz was also a lifelong exhibitor at the Calhoun County Fair where she won many ribbons, including numerous blue ribbons and a Michigan State ribbon for her white bread. She enjoyed reading, knitting, and crocheting baby Afghans for Oaklawn Hospital OB department.

Liz dearly loved her family. She is survived by her children, Brian (Gretchen) Huggett of Kalamazoo, MI, Della (Marc) Stanford of Portage, MI and Ginny (Ron) Sherer of Plainwell, MI; her grandchildren, Elizabeth (Bob Lewis) Huggett, Cameron Stanford, Evan Stanford, Ted Sherer, Rachel Sherer, and Jack Sherer; Also surviving are brother, Leonard Woods; sister-in-law, Renate Woods and many beloved nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by husband, George in 2003; granddaughter, Shelby Stanford; brothers and sisters, Kenneth (Bev) Woods, Keith (Pearl) Woods, Henry Woods, Marie Woods, Francis (Joyce) Woods, Rose Rita (Rolin) Richardson, Bernadine (Gordon) Karns; sister-in-law’s, Mary, and Molly; as well as her special friend, Alfred Quade.

Funeral services have been entrusted to Kempf Family Funeral and Cremation Services, 723 US Hwy 27 N, Marshall, MI 49068. Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Sunday, February 27, 2022, from 2:30pm to 7:00pm with a Vigil beginning at 6:00pm, and funeral mass on Monday, February 28, 2022, at 10:00am at St. Mary Catholic Church, 212 W. Hanover St, Marshall, MI 49068 with Father Craig Lusk officiating. Committal Service and interment will follow at St. Mary Catholic Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made in honor of Liz to Marshall District Library.
