Dorothy M. Withee

Dorothy M. (Carpenter) Withee, age 88, of Kalamazoo, died at Rose Arbor Hospice in Kalamazoo on Tuesday, April 25, 2006. Dorothy was born Jan. 22, 1918 in Homer to Cassius and Mina (Shaffer) Carpenter. She moved to Marshall as a child with her family and graduated from Marshall High School. She moved to Kalamazoo from Marshall 50 years ago and has lived there since. Dorothy was married on Dec. 21, 1940 in Marshall to John R. Withee Sr. . He preceded her in death in 1983. She worked in a dentist''s office in Marshall until the birth of her sons. Dorothy enjoyed playing bridge throughout her life, and enjoyed working puzzles. She liked to crochet articles for her friends and family Surviving are her sons, John R. (Bonnie ) Withee Jr. of Petoskey and David M. Withee of Kalamazoo, and 2 granddaughters, Wendy Withee of Lansing and Stacey Withee of Otsego. She was preceded in death by her sister, Margaret Hurlbert. There will be no public visitation. Graveside services will be held on Saturday, May 6, at 11AM at Oakridge Cemetery in Marshall. Arrangements are by Craig K. Kempf Funeral Home. The family suggests that memorial contributions be directed to Kalamazoo Loaves and Fishes or Hospice of Southwest Michigan. Assistance with memorials is available at Kempf Funeral Home.
