Dorothy Marion Poyer

Dorothy Marion Poyer, 96, of Bellevue, Michigan passed away on Monday, February 5, 2024 at the Flower House in Nashville, Michigan.  

She was born on May 19, 1927 to Orno and Marion (Miller) Lewis in Bellevue, Michigan.

She was a graduate of Bellevue High School. In 1947, Dorothy married David Reese and sadly he passed away in 1975. She then married Eugene Joseph Poyer Sr. on October 15, 1979 and he passed away on April 27, 2004. She was an Executive Secretary at Interbake Cookies in Battle Creek, starting in 1954 and retiring in 1979.

Dorothy was a longtime member of Bellevue United Methodist Church where she played the organ and sang in their choir. She was also a member of the 20th Century Club and the Etc Club. Dorothy lived a very active life and will be truly missed. She loved being outdoors, whether snowmobiling and boating at Thornapple Lake in her younger days, going for walks or currently mowing her lawn. She enjoyed crossword puzzles and watching old tv shows, including Gunsmoke and Lawrence Welk. Dorothy loved to travel throughout the United States, going on cruises and the yearly trips to Manistique Lake in Michigan's Upper Peninsula. Dorothy also loved dogs, especially Dolly and Buddy.

Dorothy is survived by her loving children, Eugene "Butch" (Marilyn) Poyer of Bellevue, Michigan and Jan Wolever of Charlotte, Michigan; her grandchildren, Jody (Steve Webb) Poyer of Nashville, Michigan, Kim (Joel) Madsen of Cedar Springs, Michigan, Ronald (April) Poyer of Potterville, Michigan and Paula (Dan) Burdick of Guyman, Oklahoma; her daughter in law, Denise Brush-Poyer of Bellevue, Michigan and daughter in law, Rita Poyer of Baldwin, Michigan. She is also survived by many great grandchildren and great great grandchildren. 

She was preceded in death by her parents and husbands, her son's Tom Poyer, Brian Poyer and Bruce Poyer, her siblings, James Lewis, Marjorie Swartz and Alice Hamilton.

Visitation will be held Thursday, February 8, 2024, from 10:30 am - 12:00 pm at Bellevue United Methodist Church (122 W. Capital Ave. Bellevue, Michigan 49021) with the funeral service to follow at 12:00 noon. Pastor Darwin Kuhl officiating.     

Burial will follow at Riverside Cemetery in Bellevue, Michigan.
