Dennis (Denny) Damon

September 14, 1942 — December 3, 2022

Marshall

Dennis (Denny) A. Damon, 80, of Marshall, Michigan passed away peacefully on Saturday, December 3, 2022 at home.

He was born on September 14, 1942 to John and Luella (Hodges) Damon in Battle Creek, Michigan. He met and married Charlene Sivits in 1963 and they had a daughter, Barb, who passed after a battle with cancer in 1996.  He divorced in 1976.

Denny met the love of his life and best friend, Rosmary (Rosie) Cogswell, in 1978 and they spent 29 years together until she passed away on August 27, 2007.

He worked at the VA Hospital for a short while before going to General Motors Corporation in Lansing where he worked on the assembly line for 28.5 years, retiring in 1993. Denny loved nothing more than spending time at his home "Damon's Starvation Acres", taking care of his dogs, goats, rabbits, chickens pigs and cows on occasion. He loved his garden and the canning Rosy did for years. He was a very resourceful person, fixing his farm equipment, trucks and working on home projects. He will be remembered by many as a frequent visitor of the Battle Creek Stockyards and the many auctions he loved going to.  One of his favorite past-times was his weekly Thursday trip with Nephew Dan Damon going to town for supplies for the farm, driving in the country to see the deer, stopping to visit with various friends, and their “lunch” with his friends and family at the Village Bar in Bellevue.

Denny is survived by his sisters, Sue (Paul) Coats of Bellevue, Michigan and Maxine (Don) Collins of Olivet, Michigan; two step daughters, Tami Hook and Denise Renner, and 23 nephews and nieces. He was particularly close to his nephew Dan Damon and his wife Peggy that have cared for him and helped on the farm since losing his brother Bob and his best friend and companion Rosie. He was preceded in death by his Daughter Barb Damon in 1996, his parents; his companion Rosie; his sister, Betty Harrison; and his brothers, Robert, Kenneth, Wayne and John.

In the past year, he was graciously and lovingly cared for by Chrissy Eakins with Careline Health Group Hospice.  Her visits were comforting as she was always kind, funny and thoughtful, but direct and spoke with truth to him, which won him over (not an easy task).

He was a private man and didn’t want to be buried until it was warm (he hated the cold).  A private graveside service will take place at a later date when he will be laid to rest next to Rosy at Austin Cemetery in Convis Township, Michigan.

Memorials are suggested to the Charity of one's choice.

Arrangements were entrusted to Chuck Stallard with Kempf Family Funeral and Cremation Services, 723 US Hwy 27 N, Marshall, Michigan 49068.
