Dena Mae Carnell

Dena Mae Carnell, 94, of Springfield, MI passed away on June 14, 2021, at Evergreen Senior Care in Springfield, MI. Dena was born on January 30, 1927, in Detroit, MI.


She was a member of the Chapel Hill United Methodist Church. She enjoyed traveling and playing cards, especially Bridge. Later in life she learned to play golf and enjoyed playing with friends. She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother who loved to spend time with her family.


Dena is survived by her children, Marilyn Scullion and Jackie (Doug) Hoppa; eight grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents Miles and Myrtle Hemry; her late husband, Vivian Jack Carnell; her daughter, Denise Atkins; her son-in-law, Gene Scullion; her brothers, James and Walter Hemry.


Friends may visit with the family from 12 - 1 p.m. on Monday, June 21, 2021, at Kempf Family Funeral and Cremation Services, 2838 Capital Ave SW, Battle Creek, MI 49015. A funeral ceremony will follow the visitation at 1 p.m. on Monday at the funeral home. A graveside ceremony will take place after the funeral in Newbre Cemetery in Emmett Township.
