David Perry Foster, age 81, of Marshall died Friday, April 22, 2006, at Oaklawn Hospital.Mr. Foster was born on October 25, 1924, in Marshall to Walter John and Martha (Perry) Foster. He was a life long resident of Marshall and was a graduate of Marshall High School, class of 1942. Following his graduation he served in the United States Navy, during World War II. He returned to Marshall and attended Michigan State University, graduating in 1948. He was a proud graduate of MSU and was often seen wearing his Michigan State Green sports jacket and Spartan neck tie.On October 1, 1949, he married the former Joan Jenner in Bartlesville, Oklahoma. David affectionately referred to her as "Oklahoma Red".David had been employed for 26 years with Michigan National Bank in Marshall and one year with the Michigan Bank-Mid South in Litchfield. While working in Marshall he was named Senior Vice President in 1971. In 1982, David was named Executive Vice President of the Bank in Litchfield. While with Michigan National Bank, he was involved with the Industrial Revenue Bonds and Economic Development Corporation Bonds for Progressive Dynamics Inc., Trim Parts, Marshall Brass, Win Schuler''s in Marshall and Reed Plastics in Albion.Mr. Foster had been very involved in the city of Marshall and the area of Calhoun County. David served on the Marshall School Board for 11 years. He was a former Board Member of the Marshall Chamber of Commerce and the Literacy Council of Calhoun County. He served as the Director of the Economic Development for the City of Marshall and was a member of the Calhoun County Metropolitan Planning Commission. Together with Ron DeGraw and Chet Hemmingsen was an incorporator of the City of Marshall Economic Development Corporation. David served as the Calhoun County representative to the South-Central Michigan Planning Commission and was a former member of the Calhoun County Economic Development Commission. He had also served as a board member of the Marshall United Way and was on the Steering Committee for the Fund Drive for the Athletic Field Complex at the High School.Mr. Foster was a member of Trinity Episcopal Church and served as a Vestryman. He was also very involved in the Marshall Rotary Club, serving as its President 1944-1945.He is survived by his wife, Joan; daughters, Nancy (Kim Lunderskov) Foster of Burlington, WI and Janet (Mark) van Hartesvelt of Park City, UT; four grandchildren, Scott (Monica) van Hartesvelt, Ashley (Ethan) Driscoll, Ian Lunderskov and Eric Lunderskov. He was preceded in death by a brother, Thomas Ward Foster.The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 Friday at the Craig K. Kempf Funeral Home. A memorial service will be held 3:00 PM Saturday at the Trinity Episcopal Church with The Reverend Fr. Leonard J. Brinkmoeller officiating. Interment is in Oakridge Cemetery. Friends who wish may make memorial contributions to the Trinity Episcopal Church or to the Marshall Rotary Club. Assistance with memorials is available at the funeral home.
