David "Brownie" Frank Fleming, Sr., 73, of Kalamazoo, Michigan formerly of Athens, Michigan passed away on May 8, 2021 at Hospital Bronson in Kalamazoo, Michigan.
He was born on April 6, 1948 in Battle Creek, Michigan to Virgil Leroy and Elsie Louise (Bradley) Thomas.
David owned Brownie's Small Engine Repair in Athens, Michigan for many years and he also owned Mom's Bait Shop in Athens, Michigan as well.
He loved to fish, hunt and take care of his pets. David enjoyed teaching his family and friends how to live off and respect the land and be self- sufficient. He enjoyed reading and learning about American Indian history. David will be missed by those who would ask him to fix just about anything around the house and garage.
David is survived by his mother; Louise Thomas of Kalamazoo, Michigan, his children; Brenda (Bobby) Alexander of Flat Rock, North Carolina, Dave (Melissa Fleming, Jr. of Battle Creek, Michigan, Tammy (Al) Lovelace of Battle Creek, Michigan and Shannon (Rob) Gray of Mendon, Michigan, his 14 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren, his sister; Sharon Lucas of Manistee, Michigan. He was preceded in death by his father; Virgil Fleming, his step-father; Dale Thomas and his brother; Richard Newsome.
Memorial contributions are requested to the Humane Society of South- Central Michigan or to the charity of the donor's choice.
A Celebration of David's life will be held at a later date.
