Dale "Little Man" Edward Sears, 72, of Battle Creek, Michigan passed away on Monday, November 14, 2022 at Bronson Battle Creek Hospital.
He was born on September 3, 1950 to Beldon and Ethel (Berry) Sears in Flint, Michigan. Dale was drafted into the United States Army on September 5, 1968 in Bamberg, Germany and was honorably discharged on August 28, 1971 at Fort Lewis, Washington having attained the rank of SP5. He received the National Defense Service Medal, VSM, VCM with 1 O/S Bar, Expert M-16 Badge and the MKM M-14 Badge.
On July 6, 1974 he married Mary Skaggs, who was born in Albion, MI, and raised in Greenup, KY. Dale and Mary were wed in Wise, Virginia.
Dale was a car hauler truck driver with Leaseway Trucking for 15 years, retiring in 2001. He was a former member of the Eagles Lodge in Russell, Kentucky, the Homer VFW Post and the Teamsters Union #651 in Lexington, Kentucky, and Teamsters Local#299, in Detroit. He loved to fish, hunt, travel within the United States, gold prospecting and going to the casino. Dale had a gift for playing the guitar and singing. Country and old rock and roll were his favorite music to play and listen to.
Dale "Little Man" is survived by his loving wife Mary, his children; Brian (Pam) Edwards of Homer, Michigan, Joseph (Denise Laskey) Edwards of Homer, Michigan, Michael Edwards of Battle Creek, Michigan and Denise "D'Nisha" (Robert) Channey of Battle Creek, Michigan, his grandchildren; Courtney (Bryan) Starkey of Homer, Brian “Bub” Edwards II and Sierra Goodson of Homer, Michigan, Dallas Sparks of Battle Creek, Michigan, Ashley (Andrew) Larner of Battle Creek, Michigan and Brandy Sparks of Battle Creek, Michigan, his great grandchildren, Konnor, Brantlee, Nicolas, Keri, Phoenix, Maggie and Melody, and his brother; Donald (Georgina) Sears of Falmouth, Michigan.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Clarence Sears.
Visitation for Dale will take place Thursday, November 17, 2022, from 11:00 am - 12:30 pm at Kempf Family Funeral & Cremation Services, 2838 Capital Ave. SW, Battle Creek, Michigan 49015. The funeral service will follow at 12:30 pm at the funeral home with Pastor Steve Olmstead officiating.
Burial with full military honors will take place in the Fort Custer National Cemetery.
Memorials are suggested to the Disabled American Veterans Association.
