Bertha Irene (Talsma) Sims

Bertha Irene Sims, passed on to her eternal home with Jesus on November 11, 2022 in Battle Creek, Michigan.

Mrs. Sims was born in Rudyard, Michigan on October 24, 1923 to the late, Arthur and Wilhemina (Tiejema) Talsma. She married Jaybe Sims on September 19, 1942 in St. Ignace, Michigan. They resided in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan where Bertha worked at the family dairy and delivered milk door to door during WWII. In 1955, the Sims family moved to Toledo, Ohio, Where Bertha became a licensed cosmetologist and the proud owner of “Sims Hair Fashions” of Maumee, Ohio.

After the passing of her husband, Mrs. Sims retired to Florida where she shared a neighborhood with her sister, Goldie (Frank) Stalls; and brothers, Raymond (Gertrude) Talsma, and Robert (Bobbie) Talsma. Mrs. Sims returned to Michigan in 2003 where she resided with her daughter, Marsha until her death. In her 99 years on this earth, she extended love, grace, and kindness to everyone she met, and her strong Christian faith was an inspiration to all who knew her!

Mrs. Sims is survived by her four children, Terry (Sharon) Sims of Dunham Springs, LA, Gary (Connie) Sims of Lincoln, Michigan, David (Eleanor) Sims of Duncan, South Carolina, and Marsha Cox of Battle Creek, Michigan. She is further survived by her sister, Goldie Stalls of Westerville, OH; 14 grandchildren; 21 great grandchildren; 2 great-great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. Mrs. Sims was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Jaybe Sims; brothers, Egbert, John, Raymond, and Robert Talsma; and sisters-in-law, Margaret, Bertha, Gertrude, and Bobbie Talsma.

Services have been entrusted to Kempf Family Funeral and Cremation Services, 723 US Hwy 27 N, Marshall, MI 49068. Visitation will be held on Saturday, November 26, 2022 at 11:00 am with the Memorial Service beginning at 12:00pm, Pastor Kris Tarkiewicz officiating.
