Barbara Jean (Lapham) Hayes

Barbara Jean Hayes, 91, of Marshall, passed away on April 11, 2023, at home surrounded by her loving family.

She was born on September 13, 1931, to Dale and Avis (Grantham) Lapham in Marshall, Michigan. Barbara graduated from Marshall High School in 1949 and married Reuben Hayes on January 16, 1954, in Indiana. They enjoyed raising their family together in Marshall. She worked for the Kellogg Company in several different departments throughout her 30-year career which included the Mail Room, working as both an Operator and Receptionist, then completing her career in Accounts Receivable.

Barbara enjoyed gardening and was a longtime member of the Marshall Garden Club. She loved to travel and enjoyed many family trips as her kids were growing up. Also enjoyed camping and bowling.

Barbara is survived by her three children, Belinda L. Cygan of Kalamazoo, Cheryl (Douglas) Chrispyn of Marshall, and Reuben (Nicole) Hayes of Marshall; nine grandchildren, Steven, Amber, Timothy, Lee, Garred (Nichole), Audrey (Trevor), Brenna, Rayna and Alayna and two great-grandchildren, Carson and Noah.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Reuben in 2015; son-in-law, Matthew J. Cygan; parents, Dale and Avis Lapham; brother, Major Robert G. Lapham; Sisters, Betty Rodgers, Donna Morrill, Shirley Williams, and Joyce Day.

Services have been entrusted to Kempf Family Funeral and Cremation Services, 723 US Hwy 27 N, Marshall, MI 49068. Visitation will be held Monday, April 17, 2023, from 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm. And a Graveside Service will take place on Tuesday, April 18, 2023, at 11:00 am in Oakridge Cemetery, 614 Homer Road, Marshall, Michigan.
