Arthur "Art" Eli Simmons

Arthur "Art" Eli Simmons, 90, of Marshall, Michigan passed away on Thursday, October 12, 2023 at Reflections Memory Care in Battle Creek, Michigan.

He was born on August 9, 1933 to William and Lilly (Linn) Simmons in Bonner Springs, Kansas.

On October 24, 1953, Art married Margaret “Peg” Waidely in Marshall, Michigan. Art served during the Korean Conflict Era in the United States Army from February 2, 1954 until his honorable discharge on February 1, 1956. He attained the rank of Technician Third Class.

As a young man, he was a meat cutter for A & P, Freddie’s and then at Felpausch. Art went on to work at Eaton's Manufacturing in Marshall for over 30 years with his last position being a Sales Engineer. Art loved to fish, especially pan fishing. He was active with and coached his children's little league teams and was a longtime score keeper for Marshall High basketball games. Art enjoyed music, including playing the guitar and singing in the church choir. As a teenager and into being an adult, he was a very good athlete in basketball and softball.

Art is survived by his children; Ron (Carol) Simmons of Marshall, Michigan, Kim (Judith) Simmons of Gowen, Michigan, Lisa (Roger) South of Marshall, Michigan and Craig (Elizabeth) Simmons of Petoskey, Michigan; his grandchildren, Jennifer Simmons, Meghann (Brett) Gorby, Louis (Courtney) Simmons, Christa (Stefan) Hamran, Erin (Rob Shelley) Simmons, Sarah (Owen) Leonard, Jacob (Myrica) Simmons, Hanna Simmons and Natalie Simmons. He is also survived by 13 great grandchildren. Sister, Phyllis Alexander of Archie, Missouri.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret “Peg”, his parents, his four sisters and three brothers.

Visitation will take place on Tuesday, October 17, 2023, from 5:00 pm - 8:00 pm at Kempf Family Funeral & Cremation Services, 723 US Hwy 27 N, Marshall, Michigan 49068.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, October 18, 2023, 11:00 am at the funeral home with Pastor Katie Wallen officiating. Burial will follow at Lyon Lake Cemetery.

Memorials are suggested to the Marshall Athletic Boosters or First Baptist Church in Marshall.
