Anita Mae (Scherer) Bemis

Anita Mae Bemis, age 93, passed away on Thursday, March 10, 2022. Anita was born May 26, 1929 on P Drive South, at the family farm in Tekonsha, MI, to Leslie Donald Scherer and Alta Jessie (Rich) Scherer. She had one brother, Leslie Joseph Scherer.

Some of Anita’s fondest memories throughout her life were from growing up on the family farm. She had a deep love of animals and always had a family dog her entire life.

Anita graduated from Tekonsha High School in 1946. She had her first job right after high school at Kroger in Marshall. There she met her husband, Neil Bryce Bemis. They were married in 1948. They we married 61 years, until Neil’s passing in 2010.

They had four children: Harold Leslie Bemis, Timothy Mark Bemis, Norma Louise Bemis and Dawn Marie (Brien) Smith. There are four grandchildren: Beth Johnston, Jennifer (Aaron) Wendt, Jorge (Jamie) Zapata and Logan Smith. Six great grandchildren:  Kylie Endsley, Mason Endsley, Hayden McNeeley, Braxton Wendt, Otto Zapata and Lola Zapata.

Anita is preceded in death by her husband Neil, son Tim, great grandson Otto and brother Joe.

Final interment will be at Riverside Cemetery in Tekonsha, MI. There will be a graveside service at 11:00 am on March 19, 2022.
