1933 Alice Joyce Rook 2024

Alice Joyce Rook

June 10, 1933 — January 5, 2024

Burlington, Michigan

Alice Joyce (Granger) Rook, 90, of Burlington, passed away on Friday, January 5, 2024, at home surrounded by her loving family.
Alice was born to Clark and Carrie (Anderson) Granger on June 10, 1933, in Mendon Township, Michigan. She graduated from Battle Creek Lakeview High School in 1950 and went on to attend Argubright Business College. She worked at Kellogg Cereal Company in the accounting department for many years.
On August 17, 1951, at Lakeview Baptist Church in Battle Creek Alice married Donald “Don” George Rook. They spent 68 blessed years together before Don’s passing in 2020.
She was a proud homemaker taking care of Don, their children and the farm. Alice liked being involved with her children’s lives and her community. Alice was a longtime 4-H leader with Ellis Corners 4-H and she was an open class exhibitor winning the best bushel of corn for many years. Alice was a member of the Calhoun Co. Horse Breeders Assoc. and of the MMPA.  She was a member of the Ellis Corners Mothers Club, keeping the connections from the group long after she was an active member. Alice and many of the past members looked forward to getting together for lunch and dinner.
For entertainment Alice liked to watch Murder She Wrote and Lawrence Welk. She also enjoyed completing puzzles, doing word search, crafting and gardening. Alice prided herself on her flower gardens. She liked to watch the hummingbirds fly by and land on one of their many feeders. She always had potted and hanging flowers surrounding the porch to add some more color to the home.
Alice and Don were each other’s traveling companions. Together they would go to their cabin in Lewiston, Michigan where they also enjoyed snowmobiling. They especially enjoyed going camping to their favorite spot in Grand Marais, Michigan. A favorite pastime of the two was cruising together on their Kawasaki Mule, taking the local streets, visiting with neighbors and picking up bottles and trash. Feeling like teenagers again with their first car. Riding was a wonderful connection the couple shared. Every Sunday, Alice and Don would take a morning ride and enjoy the journey. They enjoyed going to Topeka, Indiana and having a Turkey Manhattan at Tiffany’s Restaurant. After the ATV rides one of Alices favorite things to do was to have lunch with her husband at the M-60 park. Her go to meal would have her favorites, chicken nuggets and ice cream.
Alice is survived by her children; Patricia (Rick) Blanchard of Battle Creek, Donna Rook of Union City, Barbara (Keith) Rogers of Burlington, Joann (Duane) Bush of Burlington, Christine (Todd) Landis of Homer and a son; she is also survived by several grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Alice is preceded in death by her husband Donald "Don" George Rook, her son John Rook, her Sister Eldora Carpenter, her twin sisters Velda and Zelda Granger, her brother Otis Granger and her half-sister, Lucille Hough.
