Alice Irene (Gary) Lowder of Marshall, Michigan, passed away peacefully on the night of the 27th of December 2023 at the age of 94. Alice was wrapped in the warmth of her family as she went.
Alice was born June 5th1929 to Harold Gary Sr and Blanche (Cary) Gary in Coldwater Michigan. Alice graduated from Coldwater High School and subsequently married Silas “Ken” Kenneth Lowder on December 20th, 1947, in Angola, Indiana. The pair established their home in Marshall, Michigan and resided there except when her husband Ken was stationed at San Diego’s Naval Facilities. In following years, Alice always accompanied Ken to his annual Navy reunions. Along with their regular trips to Arizona to see Ken’s brother Bob, the reunion became a tradition for the family. In 2018 Ken bid Alice his final goodbye at the age of 91. The husband and wife had been blessed with 70 years together.
Aside from raising her family, Alice worked retail, particularly enjoying Murphy’s Department Store. She kept the books for her husband’s auto repair business. She was a past member of the Marshall Moose Lodge. As a mom she was a member of the PTA and served as the president of former Mother's Club. Pastimes included Bunco with friends and participating in bowling leagues at Marshall Lanes. She had an appreciation for mystery books and was a devoted fan of Judge Judy.
Alice is survived by: daughter, Karen Sue (Mark) Loyer of Marshall, Michigan, son, Michael (Jan) Lowder of Battle Creek, Michigan; four grandchildren, Stacey (Brian) Bornmann of Otsego, Michigan, Melissa (Tim) Miller of Portage, Michigan, Courtney (Ryan) Moore of Homer, Michigan, and Mark Loyer, Jr. of Marshall, Michigan, 9 great grandchildren, and close friends Dawn and Anita.
She was preceded in death by husband Silas "Ken" Kenneth Lowder, her parents, brothers Harold Gary Jr. and Raymond Gary, and sister Dorothy Hoag.
Private funeral services will be held at the West Eckford Cemetery, Eckford Twp, Michigan.
