ADAM JOSEPH SCHUBELAdam Joseph Schubel, age 91, of Marshall and formerly of the Detroit area died July 18, 2006 at Wolk''s Adult Foster Care Home in Marshall.Mr. Schubel was born on December 23, 1914 in Chicago, Illinois to Adam and Rosina (Wichtner) Schubel. He had been a resident of the Marshall area since 2005, moving here from Birmingham, Michigan. He had lived in Dearborn,Birmingham and Franklin areas for much of his adult life. He maintained a summer home at Cross Village Shores on Lake Michigan.In June of 1940, he married the former Jean Carlson in Chicago. She preceded him in death on September 27, 1997.Mr. Schubel was a veteran of 31 years of service with Shedd-Bartush and Beatrice Foods. He started in the grocery business when he was 13 years of age as a delivery boy for National Tea Company in Chicago. While living in Chicago, he attended the Chicago City College and worked as a clerk and relief manager for National Tea.In 1946, he became regional sales manager for Shedd-Bartush and five years later was advanced to assistant general sales manager. He was promoted to national sales manager in 1955 and vice president of sales in 1960. He was elected executive vice president and general manager in 1962 and president in 1965. In 1977, Mr. Schubel was promoted to a Divisional President of Beatrice Foods. He retired in 1981. Following his retirement he continued to do consulting work for the company.Mr. Schubel was a director of the National Association of Margarine Manufactures from 1962 through 1976 and was chairman of the board in 1962 and 1969.Mr. Schubel maintained a very busy schedule serving on the Board of the Directors for numerous associations; included are the Franklin Village Association, the Cross Village Shores Homeowners Association and the Franklin Little League Baseball Association to name just a few. Although he was a very busy man he always had time for his family and he cherished the time he spent with them.He is survived by sons, Richard (Lucille) Schubel of Tucson, AZ and Jeffrey (Dian) Schubel of Marshall; a daughter, Lynne (Charles) Saperstein of Birmingham, Michigan; grandchildren, Adam (Stephanie) Schubel, Regan Schubel and Joshua Saperstein. He was preceded in death by a brother, Frank Schubel and his parents.The family is planning a private graveside service at a later date. Friends who wish may make memorial contributions to the Jackson and Oaklawn Hospice Care. Assistance with memorials is available at the funeral home.
