Obituary

Karen Vanderpool, 63 of Homer died on Sunday September 1, 2019 at her home surrounded by her family following a long illness.

Karen was born on January 5, 1956 in Martin, Kentucky to Ward and Shirley (Mullins) Tackett Sr. She graduated From Springport High School in 1974. On August 2, 2010 she married Larry Vanderpool in McDowell, Kentucky.

Karen worked for several years as a Certified Nurses Aide at Marshall Manor. She retired in 2014 due to illness. Karen also worked at Divco in Springport area and Legends Manufacturing in Coldwater. She attended the Marshall Church of Christ. Karen enjoyed watching the birds and squirrels, riding her motorcycle, and her animals. She especially enjoyed spending time with her family.

She is survived by her husband Larry of Homer; children Dale (April) Brown of Homer and Jessie Brown of Marshall; step-children Shawn (Tanya Lower) Vanderpool and Jenah (Matt) McCullough; grandchildren, Austin Boyd, Adam Boyd, Amanda Boyd, Dakota Brown, Keely Brown, Mallaki Warrix, Caleb Berry, and Kylie Berry; step grandchildren, Americus May, Mila McCullough, and Maya McCullough; her mother Shirley (Glenn) Murphy; and a brother Ward Tackett Jr. She was preceded in death by her father, Ward Tackett Sr.; and a granddaughter Kaylee Brown.

Family will gather with friends from 5-8pm on Thursday September 5, 2019 at the Homer Chapel of the Kempf Family Funeral and Cremation Services 303 South Hillsdale Street. A funeral service celebrating her life will take place at 1pm on Friday September 6, 2019 at the Homer Chapel of the Kempf Family Funeral and Cremation Services with Elder Estill Hamilton officiating. Interment will follow at Fairview Cemetery. Memorial contributions are requested to Oaklawn Hospice or to the Humane Society of South Central Michigan. Assistance with memorials is available at the Kempf Family Funeral and Cremation Services.
