Jeffery J. Hiither

Jeffery J. "Jeff" Hiither, 48, of Albion, died Thursday morning, November 29, 2018 at his home in the loving care of his family after a courageous battle with cancer.

Jeff was born to Dennis L. and Donna J. (Jackson) Hiither in Eaton Rapids on August 3, 1970. He moved to the Marshall area while in elementary school. He graduated from Marshall High School in 1988, then attended ITT Technical School in Fort Wayne, Indiana where he earned a degree in Electronics.

Jeff enlisted in the U.S. Navy, receiving training in aviation avionics. He served at Miramar Naval Air Station in San Diego, California during Desert Storm working on aircraft's avionics. He was honorably discharged in 1996.

After his honorable discharge Jeff returned home and worked in electronics. He went to work at Duncan Aviation in Battle Creek in March of 1997 continuing his work with avionics. In 2007 he left Duncan and went to work at Oakland County International Airport in Waterford Township, near Pontiac. He has worked now as a Sr. Telecommunication Specialist in support of the Federal Protective Service at the Battle Creek Federal Center here he worked until his illness.

Jeff was married to Monnie Sue Freeman Neeley on February 27, 1998. The couple have enjoyed a loving, fruitful marriage.

Jeff and Sue are active members of the Marshall United Methodist Church where Jeff ran the sound board for the Praise Band at the Contemporary Service. He was a man of strong faith in God. He was a member of the American Chinchilla Rabbit Breeders Association and had been active in 4-H helping daughter Megan show Chinchilla rabbits at the fair. He liked woodworking and tinkering with electronics even at home. He was an outdoorsman, enjoying anything that let him be outside. He was a devoted father and "papaw". His daughters Sarah's and Elizabeth's volleyball games were "never miss" events! He was a talented man in all areas.

Surviving are his wife Sue, his daughters Megan (John Koch) Neeley of Marshall, Desa Hiither of Holt, Sarah (Jeffrey) Neeley-Shippell of St. Petersburg, FL, and Elizabeth Hiither of Marshall and her boyfriend Jordan Wilson; 3 grandsons Camden Shippell, Ezra Hiither and Dawson Hiither and soon to be born granddaughter Charlie; his paternal grandmother Marilyn Rochester of Eaton Rapids; sister Cami (John) Millsap of Marshall and step-brother Jeff Bell of Riverside, CA; nieces and nephews, and his mother-in-law Marie Rewa of Marshall. Jeff was blessed to have two fathers in his life, Dennis Hiither who preceded him in death, and Jim Kolodica of Albion, who survives him. He was preceded also in death by his mother Donna Kolodica.

Friends may call at the Marshall United Methodist Church, 721 US 27 North on Thursday, Dec. 6, beginning at 12:30 until services begin at 3PM with Rev. Melany Chalker officiating. Cremation will follow services.
