Lois Davis

Lois Joan Cowper Davis of Marshall passed away March 26, 2013 after a year long journey with lung cancer. She was born October 14, 1938 in Harbor Beach, Michigan to the late Thomas and Frances Cowper. Lois began school in East Detroit (now Eastpointe), attended a one-room school at White Rock, and graduated from Harbor Beach High School in 1956. She attended Eastern Michigan College of Commerce in Port Huron, Michigan, obtaining a Secretarial Certificate. Following her marriage to Eugene (Gene) Davis, they moved to Newark, Ohio when Gene was transferred with State Farm Insurance. Lois was a Federal Civil Service employee at Newark Air Force Station for three years and began working for State Farm Insurance in 1976. Active in Professional Secretaries International, she obtained her Certified Professional Secretary (CPS) designation in 1983. For many years, Lois has been a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Marshall where she served on several boards, attended Bible study and sang in the choir. She loved sharing her faith with others and was an inspiration to all. She looked upon her cancer as a way she could help others as she went into a clinical trial and was always joyful and making friends at the Cancer Center in Battle Creek.Her other interests included golf, needlework, traveling the world and attending the grandchildren's events since they were young. She was an avid Detroit Red Wings and Tigers fan.She is survived by her husband, Gene, three daughters: Susan (Todd) Draves, of Kalamazoo; Sandy (Larry) Woods, and Sharon (Chris) Delaney, both of Marshall; 10 grandchildren: Rick (Liz), Ryan, Sara (Harold) Woods, Jodi (Jordan) Woods, Kelli (Shea) Peters, Kyle (Shellie) Hollenbeck, Sarah Draves, Mike Draves, Rob Draves, and Chris Delaney. She is also survived by two great-grandsons, Ean and Jonah Hollenbeck. Also surviving is a sister, Sheila (John) Eddy of Harbor Beach, Michigan, and many nieces, nephews and cousins, including an aunt and several cousins in Western Canada.A service to celebrate Lois's life will be held at Zion Lutheran Church on Saturday, March 30, 2013 at 3pm. Visitation will be Thursday March 28th at Craig K Kempf Funeral Home, 723 US 27 North, Marshall from 6-8pm and Friday, March 29th from 4-7pm.Memorials may be made to L.C.M.S. World Mission/Shi-Lanka, Roger James. Burial will be in Oak Ridge Cemetery, Marshall with a funeral luncheon following at Zion Lutheran Church.
