Kathleen "Norine" (Clayborn) Gustafson,97, of Marshall, died on Monday May 15, 2006 at Oaklawn Hospital.Mrs. Gustafson was born on June 20, 1908 in Marshall to William and Norma L. (Lane) Clayborn. She graduated from Marshall High School in 1925, and graduated from Olivet College in 1930. Mrs. Gustafson started teaching at the old Ward School north of Marshall, and then she moved to Crystal, MI and taught high school and coached girl''s basketball for seven years. While she was in Crystal, she met Gerald E. Gustafson. They were married April 4, 1942 in Marshall. He preceded her in death on August 24, 2001. After their marriage Mr. Gustafson entered into the U.S. Armed Services and she moved back to Marshall to live with her parents on the family farm. She continued to teach for many years in Marshall, Homer and Tekonsha. While teaching, she was able to spend a summer in England.Mrs. Gustafson was an avid golfer and bridge player, and was a long time member of the Marshall Country Club. She enjoyed playing bridge until the age of 95.She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Gerald and Kathleen Gustafson of Portage; a grandson Scott (Amber) Gustafson of Grand Rapids; a great-grandson Zachary Gustafson of Grand Rapids; a brother Robert Clayborn of Marshall; relatives, Bill and Gloria Clayborn, Mike and Dawn Clayborn, George and Skip Clayborn; a brother-in-law and sister-in-law Lloyd and Georgia Koyl, and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death also by her parents, a sister, Mary Cornelia Koyl, brothers William and Charles Clayborn, and infant twin siblings, Charles and Sarah Clayborn.Visitation will take place at the Craig K. Kempf Funeral Home on Thursday 5:00pm-7:00pm with family present at that time. Funeral services will take place at 11:00am on Friday, May 19 at the funeral home with Rev. Howard Lyman officiating. Interment will follow at Oakridge Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Marshall Area Community Services. Assistance with memorials is available at the Kempf Funeral Home.
