John Olshansky

John Olshansky, age 97, of Marshall died Monday afternoon, April 22, 2013 at Maplewood of Marshall.Mr. Olshansky was born on April 2, 1916 in Detroit, Michigan to Nikita "Nick" and Martha (Kolesnico) Olshansky. He has been a resident of Marshall since 1951 moving here from the Detroit area. John owned and operated the old John's Pontiac Dealership in Marshall for several years. He then worked as a salesman for several different steel companies located in Detroit and Kalamazoo. During WWII, John served in the United States Navy.On November 15, 1945, he married the former Eugenia "Jennie" Tereschuk in Detroit. She preceded him in death on May 29, 2009. The couple had celebrated 62 years of marriage.John was a member of the Marshall First Baptist Church and had attended services at the Family Bible Church and West Eckford Missionary Church. He was a very active member of the Marshall Executive Club and was affectionately called, The Muffin Man. A name he received by baking delicious muffins for the group. John was an avid Detroit Tigers fan, never missing a game on the radio or television. A favorite pastime of John's was watching the financial market. He loved to study and analyze what made the market move up or down.He is remembered by his family and friends as a gentleman that truly loved the Lord, his family and the City of Marshall.He is survived by a daughter, Betty James of Plymouth, MA; a son, John (Angela) Olshansky of Holly, Michigan; and eight grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Ruth Ann Kenzie.The family will receive friends on Thursday from 2 PM to 4 PM and 6 PM to 8 PM at the Craig K. Kempf Funeral Home, Marshall. A funeral service to celebrate the gift of his life will be held 11 AM, Friday, April 26, 2013 at the funeral home with Reverend David Good and Reverend Richard Gerten officiating.Interment will take place Saturday in Greenwood Cemetery, Sandusky, Michigan conducted by the Carman Funeral Home.Friends who wish may make memorial contributions to Russian Ministries.
