Craig K. Kempf
Founder/Funeral Director/Manager Marshall Chapel
Craig was born in Marshall to Robert and Beryl Kempf and is a lifelong resident. He graduated from Marshall High School with the class of 1972. He graduated from Kellogg Community College and attended Wayne State University's Mortuary Science Program from where he graduated with Honors in 1975. He earned his Michigan Mortuary Science license in September 1975.
Craig purchased the former Kelser-Farley Funeral Home Aug.1, 1978 and renamed it Craig K.Kempf Funeral Home from where he has served his community.
In 2014 Craig, Sue and their team reopened what was the Tidd-Williams Funeral Home in Homer after it being shut down for a number of years. It was extensively remodeled to suit today's family's needs. Homer is Craig's mother's home town and he was honored to become part of the Homer community.
In 2015 Craig and Sue purchased the Shaw Funeral Homes in Battle Creek and Bellevue. Again the facilities in both communities underwent extensive renovations and updating. Craig, Sue and their team have many friends in both communities and were also honored to serve them when a death occurs.
Craig served as a firefighter with the Marshall Fire Department from 1975 to 2012, retiring as a Sergeant. He also served with the Fredonia Fire Department as a firefighter from 1996 till retiring in 2012. He was a charter member of Marshall Firefighters Ambulance Service and later served as the first Board President of the Marshall Firefighters Ambulance Authority.
Craig is a member of the Marshall Exchange Club, the Missouri Synod Lutheran Church, Cremation Association of North America, Michigan Funeral Directors Association and National Funeral Directors Association.
He is married to Suzette M. (Bollenbacher) Kempf and is the proud father of Sarah R. Kempf, Ben (Stephanie) Ziskal and Jon (Rebecca) Ziskal, and a delighted grandfather of Zachary Ziskal and Cameron Ziskal!
