Virginia Edith Kornoely

March 25, 1925 — February 21, 2019

Virginia Edith Kornoely, age 93, formerly of Albion, passed away Thursday, February 21, 2019, at Marshall Nursing & Rehabilitation with her daughter, Arlene, and husband, Ed. by her side.
She was born March 25, 1925, in Boon, Michigan, the first of eight children of Ben and Geneva (Clauson) Richards.
On December 30, 1944, she married Edward H. Kornoely and they immediately moved to Albion where they resided the rest of their married life, farming and raising their family.
Along with working side by side with her family on the farm, Virginia was the main overseer of their 6,000 laying-hen chicken house where she gathered, candled and sold some of the eggs to the many customers who came and remained close friends. She loved cooking, baking, canning and freezing from her vegetable garden and tending to her two long rows of favorite flowers. She was always willing to drop whatever she was doing to have a game of cribbage with Ed and enjoyed playing Euchre. Virginia and Ed traveled to Rice Lake, Canada, several years where she helped Ed clean the many fish he caught, spent many winters in Florida with friends who also went down from the area and she became an avid reader in her later years.
She leaves behind to cherish her memory: her husband of 74 years, Ed; her daughters, Janet Nekola of DeWitt, Bernita (Roger) Likkel of Battle Creek, Delores Pufahl of Myakka City, FL and Arlene (Robert) Wright of Ada; grandchildren, Michael (Sharie) Gibson of Bedford and Joe (Ellise Kingsberg) Nekola of Bartlett, IL; great grandchildren, Cody Gibson and Catie Nekola; step-grandsons, Tony and Sean Payne and several step great grandchildren.
She also leaves behind siblings, Alvin Richards of Olivet, Ivalu (Jake "Bud") Velfling of Detroit, Beverly Vose of Cadillac, Geneva "Tootie" (Duane "Willie") Willett of Holt and Dennis Richards of Wellston, along with many nieces, nephews and cousins.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Doug in 2013, brothers, Ben "Junior" and Lloyd Richards, sons-in-law, Gary Nekola and Jim Gluvna, sisters-in-law, Klara and Judy; and two very close friends, Marie Hoffman and Adahbelle Vereeke.
A private graveside service is planned with Pastor Andrea Johnson officiating. A celebration of her life gathering will be held in the Spring. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Southwest Michigan Rehab Foundation - Hearing Aid Program, P.O. Box 2050, Battle Creek, MI 49016 or Senior Services of Southwest Michigan - Meals on Wheels Program, 918 Jasper Street, Kalamazoo, MI 49001. Memorial envelopes are available at the funeral home. Arrangements are by the Marshall Chapel of the Kempf Family Funeral Homes and Cremation Services, 723 Old US 27 North, Marshall, Michigan.
