Veronika Maria (Hennig) McTaggart

Veronika Maria McTaggart, 67 of Marshall, Michigan, physically left us on Saturday, May 23, 2020 at the University of Michigan Hospital in Ann Arbor.r

She was born on June 7, 1952, to Gerhard and Gertrude (Zschernack) Hennig in Essen, North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. Raised entirely in Erlangen, Bavaria, Germany, Veronika came to the Unites States in 1974, went back to Germany in 1978, returned in 1978 to Newport Beach, California, and then moved to Kalamazoo, Michigan, in 1980. She married Barry H. Logan in 1980, which ended in divorce and then married Dwayne McTaggart on September 26, 2009, at Southern Exposure Farms in Battle Creek, Michigan.

Veronika graduated from Marie-Therese Gymnasium in 1972 in Erlangen, Germany, went to University of Berlin from 1972-1974, where she studied English, Geology and Industrial Education. She earned a scholarship to Western Michigan University in 1974 to continue her studies, graduating in 1976 with a Bachelor of Arts Degree. Veronika earned her Master’s Degree from Spring Arbor University in 1995. Veronika also spoke five different languages fluently and understood numerous other languages.

Veronika pursued a modeling career in Germany from 1976-1978. She returned to the United States and worked as a precious stone broker from 1978-1980 in Newport Beach, California.  She worked as a travel agent and tour escort for student music groups and traveled the world from 1982 until 1991 out of Kalamazoo, Michigan. Veronika worked as a Human Resource Manager at the American Fibrit plant in Battle Creek for 8 years and then as a Human Resource Manager and Office Manager for Autocam in Marshall  until her health forced her to retire in 2006.

Veronika was a past member of the Marshall Chamber of Commerce and the Marshall Historical Society in which she helped with the home tours. She loved to travel extensively and had been to 67 countries. Veronika also loved her dogs Sasha, Clydie, and Thomas, and she was passionate about painting, decorating, and creating art. She will be truly missed for her gift of cooking fine cuisine and as a very opinionated and determined woman.

She is survived by her loving husband Dwayne; her step-sons, Matthew McTaggart of Warren, Michigan and Brian (Christel Ciolino) McTaggart of Farmington Hills, Michigan; her sister, Angelika Oberwinter of Wiesbaden, Germany; brother in law, Jobst Wilhelm Oberwinter of Wiesbaden, Germany; her niece, Lillie Oberwinter of Wiesbaden, Germany; her nephew, Jens Oberwinter of Frankfurt, Germany and her sister in law, Carol Hill of Lansing, Michigan; lifelong friends, Elisabeth Russmueller-Otto of Erlangen, Germany and Beate Falke of Erlangen, Germany. She was preceded in death by her parents.
