Vanessa Joan (Alexander) Baklund

Vanessa J. Baklund, 90, of Albion died on Monday, February 22, 2021 at Borgess Medical Center following a short illness.
Vanessa was born on October 9, 1930 in Marshall to Peter and Grace (Gotham) Alexander. She married Carroll Baklund in 1950. He preceded her in death in 1956. On June 17, 1960, she married Kenneth M. Baklund in Marshall.
Vanessa was a homemaker staying home to raise her family. She also was a co-owner/operator of the C-Stores in the Pennfield area. She was a member of Rice Creek Community Church, Rice Creek Cemetery Board, Rice Creek Ladies Aide, Calhoun County Extension, Voyager Travel Club of Battle Creek, and was a 4-H Leader for over 25 years. Vanessa along with her husband Ken, enjoyed traveling together, going to their lake house in Northern Michigan, and winter activities. Vanessa enjoyed spending time with her family especially time with her grandchildren.
She is survived by her husband Ken; son Gary (Becky) Baklund; grandchildren Nikki (Ben) Crippen, Lesli (Chris) Dingee, and Brad (Kate) Baklund; and several great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; first husband Carroll; son Brian C. Baklund on April 11, 2020; and brothers Gordon Alexander and Reginald Alexander.
Visitation will take place from 4-7pm on Friday, February 26, 2021 at the Kempf Family Funeral and Cremation Services 723 US Hwy 27 N Marshall MI 49068. Due to Covid19 there will be marked entrances and exits to be used as well as following state guidelines for masks and social distancing. Funeral services celebrating her life will take place at 11am on Saturday, February 27, 2021 at the Kempf Family Funeral and Cremation Services with Pastor Steve Van Slyke officiating.
