Twila E. Yates , 97, Marshall, MI formerly of Homer and Albion, MI passed away on July 26, 2020. At Whispering Meadows in Marshall.
Twila was born March 10, 1923 to Johnson K. and Mae Lanham Floyd in Carrier Mills, IL. They precede her in death. She was raised by an aunt and cousin, Octavia Floyd Cook and Hettie Cook Winterberger. They preceded her also.
Twila was raised in Shawneetown, IL she was affiliated with the Presbyterian Church. She graduated from the public schools. She married Henry Orman in 1940 in Kentucky. They later moved to Mt. Carmel IL. Henry preceded her in death in 1956. In 1960, Twila married Guy J. Yates in Mt. Carmel IL. They would later move to Albion for his work and that is where they made their home. Guy preceded her in death in 1997.
Twila was a homemaker and devoted to her family. She was involved in church, PTA, Cub Scouts, and her children's activities. She attended First Baptist Church of Albion, MI and was a DAV auxiliary member. Twila enjoyed reading, walking, crossword puzzles, gardening, and bingo.
She is survived by a step-daughter Sharon Yates (Ben) Clark of Oklahoma, a son Henry J. (Ria) Orman of Homer, MI. She is survived by 9 grandchildren, several great grandchildren, and many great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a daughter Phyllis "Pinky" Orman Hering and son-in-law George F. Hering of Bellmont, IL; sisters Wynona Pyle, Lois Pankey, and Estelle Floyd; brothers Joe Floyd and James Floyd. Her stepson Larry D. Yates also precedes her.
Per Twila's wishes she will be cremated and there will be no service. Memorials in her memory can be made to Homer Caring and Sharing 102 West Main Street Homer Mi 49245 or your local food bank.
