May 11, 1929 — March 12, 2023

Marshall

Theron "Ty" Arthur Mallory, 93, of Marshall, passed away on Sunday, March 12, 2023 at Oaklawn Hospital in Marshall.

He was born on May 11, 1929 to Lynn and Carrie (Burrows) Mallory in Marshall. Theron was a 1947 graduate of Marshall High School. While in high school he played the trumpet and was part of a local jazz band led by Rudy Vogelreuter. Because of their talent, they went to Chicago and were recorded. He enrolled at Michigan State College and participated in their marching band for two years before being inducted into the United States Army on November 26, 1950, completing his basic training at Camp McCoy in Wisconsin. Theron was honorably discharged from active duty on November 14, 1952, attaining the rank of Corporal.

Theron had careers in data processing and also many years as a real estate broker in Texas and continued in Michigan until the age of 85, while also working at Kohl's in Battle Creek in the maintenance department.

He cherished his time spent with the many family gatherings of food, card games, especially pinochle and euchre. Playing Yahtzee and working crossword puzzles were also some of his favorite things to do. Theron had many fun years in bowling leagues along with great times on the golf course. He looked forward to the Calhoun County Fair to play bingo and go up into the grandstands to watch events. Theron loved listening to big band music and continued to play his trumpet at First Baptist Church of Marshall until he was 90. He was a very active member of First Baptist Church of Marshall, serving on the property and finance committee for quite a number of years. He was also baptized at First Baptist. Theron loved his church family, and most of all, you could see the joy on his face as he was singing praises to his Savior Jesus!

Theron "Ty" is survived by his loving daughters, Connie (Jerry) Bosserd of Battle Creek, Denise (Victor) Nobbs of Marshall, Brenda (Mike) Goodnight of Farmington, New Mexico and Nancy (David) Collins of Marshall; his grandchildren, Christopher (Jill) Bosserd of Grand Rapids, Nicole (Larry) Mullins of Canton, Michael  Bryant of Houston, Texas, Lyndsey (Nick) McKay of Nashville and Dustin (Leah) Goodnight of Urbana, Illinois; his great grandchildren, Cynthia Mullins, Ava Mullins, Liam Thomas, Nathan Bosserd and Carson McKay; and his brother, Lynn (Chari) Mallory, Jr. of Carrollton, Texas.
