Sundaram "Simon" Lakshmi Narasimhan

Sundaram Lakshmi Narasimhan, known to his friends and family as Simon, passed away in his home in Marshall, Michigan on May 18, 2023. He was 77 years old. Simon was born on July 6, 1945, in Cuddalore, Tamil Nadu, India. He graduated at the Indian Institute of Technology – Madras from 1962-1967, where he majored in Metallurgical Engineering. Simon then traveled to Seattle, Washington and began his graduate work in Metallurgical Engineering at the University of Washington in 1968, where he received his PhD in 1973. He then did his postdoctoral research at the University of Southern California from 1973-1977. Shortly thereafter, Simon started at Eaton Corporation in Marshall, where he worked for over 31 years as their Chief Materials Engineer before he retired in 2009. To keep himself busy, Simon did part-time consulting work for various companies and organizations, where he was sought out for his valuable expertise in material development and processing of metal alloys.

During his time in Marshall, Simon was actively involved in various professional organizations, most especially the Rotary Club. During his membership, Simon worked well with his fellow members and passionately led projects that impacted many lives. He even served as President of the Rotary Club. In addition to his professional life, Simon was a loving husband to his late wife Leela, and an affectionate father and mentor to his and Leela’s children Veena and Dev, as well as his siblings’ children, and their loved ones.

Simon is survived by his daughter, Veena; and his son, Dev Raj and his daughter-in-law, Amy Jarvis (Dev’s wife); as well as his nieces and nephews.

Preceding Simon in death are parents, Sundaram and Kothaiammel Iyengar; all his siblings, Kamala Ranganathan, S. Srinivasan, S. Krishnaswami, S. Ranganathan, and S. Ramaswami of whom Simon was the youngest.

Services have been entrusted to Kempf Family Funeral and Cremation Services, 723 US Hwy 27 N, Marshall, MI 49068 where Viewing and Visitation will be held WEDNESDAY, MAY 24, 2023, from 10:00AM to 11:30AM. The Service will begin at 11:30AM followed by cremation at the Langland Family Cremation Center at 1:30PM.

On MONDAY, MAY 29, 2023, Visitation will begin at 10:00AM with a Memorial Service at 11:00AM. A Committal Service and Burial will follow at Lyon Lake Cemetery, 8514 17 Mile Road, Marshall, MI 49068.  (*Please note that the above times are in Eastern Time Zone)
