Steven Eugene Swafford

June 6, 1956 — April 2, 2021

Steven Eugene Swafford, 64, of Homer, passed away on April 02, 2021 at Summa Health System - Akron Campus in Akron, Ohio where he was taken after being critically injured in an automobile accident earlier in the week.

Steven was born on June 06, 1956 in Marshall to his parents James L. and Joyce E. (Garvin) Swafford.

Steve grew up first in the Lyon Lake area, later moving with his parents and sisters to the family farm on D Drive South. He attended Marshall Public Schools and was a member of the 1974 Marshall High School graduating class. While in high school, he was very active in Marshall FFA.

Steve was introduced to Julie Ann Smith from Homer when they were set up on a blind date by their mutual good friends Doug and Anne (Mestdagh) Leach. The blind date turned into love in time and the couple were married on August 15, 1981 at Homer First Presbyterian Church. They became dedicated and loving partners in life. Early in their marriage they moved to Homer where Steve has lived since.

Steve started his career with the Calhoun County Road Commission in 1986. He retired from there after 29 years as a Working Foreman in 2015.

Steve founded the family business "Trophy Feast" in 2008. They produced mineral attractants, plot seeds, bird seed, and cover up spray. He loved traveling with the products in his trailer, delivering and visiting with his vendors, which he was doing when the accident occurred.

He was a public servant to the community he loved, serving as a Trustee for Homer Township and as a board member of the Calhoun County Agricultural and Industrial Society for the Calhoun County Fairgrounds. He served as a 4-H leader for the Calhoun County Swine Club for many years. He loved his trips up north to fish and watch birds. During deer season Steve liked to keep track of the deer harvested by friends during hunting season.

Steve was a rock to his family. He loved and cherished his wife, children and grandchildren above all else. His heart was as big as the outdoors he loved. Many untold kind acts for others can be attributed to Steve's nature. Steve never met a stranger. He easily made many friends.

Steve is survived by his wife, Julie Ann Smith Swafford; their children Andrew (Carrie) Swafford of Waldron and Danielle (Larry Russell) Swafford of Homer; grandchildren Connor Walker, Caleb Walker, Arianna Swafford, and twins Laurel and Everlee Russell; his sisters Linda (Fred) Pratley of Marshall and Sandy (Gary) Anderson of Marshall; nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
