Shelley Jo (Stockham) Cotter-Shive

January 17, 1951 — September 14, 2021

Battle Creek

Mrs. Shelley Jo Cotter-Shive from Battle Creek, MI gained her wings on September 14, 2021. Proud parents, Arthur and Lois (Woodcock) Stockham welcomed a beautiful daughter, and they named her Shelley Jo. Her arrival was January 17, 1951. She graduated from Bullock Creek High School in Midland MI. Shelley then PROUDLY graduated from Kellogg Community College with an Associate Degree in nursing, specializing in Oncology and Med Surg. She was united in marriage on April 21, 1996, to Richard Shive and they celebrated their 25th anniversary earlier this year.

As a child Shelley loved her animals, especially her cat named Polly.  She also enjoyed nature, from fishing and hunting to color tours, to just being in the great outdoors; she always enjoyed her outdoor time.  Shelley is a very loving mother/stepmother to many including Marc A. Cotter (Amy), Michael T. Cotter (Michelle), Dana C. Thomas (Wayne), Richard A. Shive, Grant D. Shive (Brittany), Audrey M. Shive, Adrian R. McNees (Richard). She was such a caring person, and we know there are many more people that she considered her children and they thought of her as their mom.

Shelley was a very avid animal lover. She has always surrounded herself with cats and dogs of all breeds. From …Coal, Scotch, Buster, Olivia, Czar, Paenzer, and Myah just to name a few. She also loved to travel taking numerous trips during her many years with Rich. Shelley traveled many times to Cheyenne, Wyoming to visit her daughter and one time she traveled to Alaska for a surprise visit on her daughter’s birthday. She went on trips with her friends to Tennessee renting a houseboat for a week, to the races in Bristol TN and Charlotte NC to root on her favorite driver in NASCAR. There were several family outings to Michigan Adventure and Cedar Point where she treasured watching her grandkids enjoying the rides. Shelley was a season ticket holder for many years of the K-Wings hockey team. She also enjoyed just traveling to the family cabin up north for relaxation.  While spending time with family, Shelley would play cribbage or euchre and even just sit by the pool with those she loved so much.  Every summer she hosted family swimming parties and cookouts so she could spend time with family and watch the grandchildren enjoy the pool.

Shelley was preceded in death by her birth parents Clell Wedl “Bud” and June Bartlett, as well as her parents; brother, Larry Whited; sister, Robin Conant (Gordy).  In addition to her husband, Richard Shive and children, she is survived by her brothers and sisters: Skeet Minor (Lynn), Mike Wedl, Patty Coan (Chris), Vickie Groce (Brian), Jeanie Mowrey (Bobby), Barbara Rabideau, Candiee Coulson, & numerous Grand Children and Great Grand Children.
