Russell "Russ" Nantz

Russell Nantz, 85, of Homer, passed away on Tuesday, October 18, 2022, in the Homer, MI.

He was born on April 4, 1937, to Paul and Lorraine (Brennan) Nantz in Chicago Heights, IL. He graduated from Homer High School in 1956. Russell worked as a Laborer for Union Steel. On Sept. 24, 1956, he married his high school girlfriend, Marjorie McCullough.

Russ loved to go fishing and spent a lot of winters in Florida. He would always attend the horse pulling in several the towns. He was an avid player in sports while in high school. In 2020, Russ was inducted into the Homer High School Athletics Hall of Fame. He spent two years in the U.S. Army, from 1956-1958. He worked at Union Steel in Albion for 34 years. He could be found every Saturday at the farmer’s market, in the summer, selling his wood crafts.

He was a member of Anchor Baptist Church.

Russell is survived by his loving spouse of 66 years Marjorie; Four sons, Michael (Jeanne) Nantz of Plainwell, MI, Mark (Joan) Nantz of Galesburg, Marvin (Kellie) Nantz of Traverse City, and Martin (Ramona) Nantz of Delton, MI; Grandchildren, Monica Warner, Michael Nantz, Christopher Nantz, Jacob Nantz, Sierra Nantz, Zachary Nantz, Brandie Helman, and Kylie Nantz; 6 Great-Grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by Mother, Lorraine Josephine Nantz, Father, Paul L. Nantz, Sister, Hellen Garringer, Sister, Martha (Robert) Handloser.

Visitation will be held Sunday, October 23, 2022, 2:00 pm - 4:00 pm & 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm at Kempf Family Funeral & Cremation Services, Homer, Michigan.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, October 24, 2022, 11:00 am at the Kempf Family Funeral & Cremation Services, Homer, Michigan, with Pastor Brian Walker, officiating.

Burial will take place in the Cooks Prairie Cemetery.

Memorials are suggested to the Oaklawn Hospice or Anchor Baptist Church.
