Roy T. Trackwell

Roy T. Trackwell Sr., 68, of Battle Creek, died Friday, Dec. 7, 2018 at the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Ann Arbor after a battle with cancer.
Roy was born April 3, 1950 in Detroit to Robert Levy and Jacqueline Columbe (Charette) Trackwell. The Viet Nam War was raging during his high school years and he enlisted in the U.S. Army during his senior year on Oct. 31, 1967. He earned his high school degree while serving in the Army.
Roy served with Company C, First Battalion of 10th Infantry of the Fifth Army in Viet Nam from July 27, 1968 to Aug. 27, 1969. During that time he fought in three major campaigns as an infantryman, which was reflected by his 3 Bronze Service Stars on his Viet Nam Service Medal. During one battle his platoon was devastated by the enemy and he was MIA in the Viet Nam jungle for 2 months. Roy was honorably discharged on September 4, 1970.
He worked at Ford Motor Company as a Shipping and Receiving Supervisor for many years until ill health forced his retirement. He resided in the Detroit area until moving to Battle Creek in 2008.
Roy was an avid, or more well put, rabid, Detroit Lions and U of M football fan! His favorite day of the year was the family Thanksgiving, which was always scheduled the day of the U of M and Ohio State football game!
Surviving Roy are his daughters Cristal (Rob) Costello of Farmington Hills and Dawn (Vincent) Brown of Escanaba; his sons James "Scott" Trackwell of Escanaba, Roy T. Trackwell Jr. of Battle Creek and Larry Trackwell of Michigan; his grandchildren Maxwell Dawson, Amelia Costello, Isabelle Costello, Summer Brown, Brandon Brown, Madison Mattus and Liam Brown; 2 sisters Lexy Zagresky and Denelda Berkley; nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and brother Robert Levy Trackwell.
Family and friends will gather at the Battle Creek Chapel of Kempf Family Funeral and Cremation Services on Friday, Dec. 14 beginning at 10AM with services to remember him following at 11AM with Rev. James Codde officiating. Committal with military honors will be held at 1PM at Fort Custer National Cemetery.
