Rodney Alan Hillman, II

Rodney Alan Hillman, II, 43, of Marshall, Michigan passed away on Sunday, May 30, 2021 at home surrounded by his loving family.

Rodney was born on August 27, 1977 in Battle Creek, Michigan to Rodney Alan and Gail (Deer) Hillman.

He graduated from Marshall High School in 1996. He married Melissa Bloom on July 15, 2006.

Rodney started working at Schuler's in the kitchen during high school and then went to work at Lear Corporation in Marshall as an assemblyman for many years. He was a Union Steward at Lear Corporation. Lastly, he worked in assembly at Marshall Excelsior for several years.

Rodney was a Boy Scout Leader for Troop # 337 and # 373 in Marshall. He was an avid online gamer and enjoyed hosting the haunted house at his father's property in Marshall. Rodney was an excellent artist in drawing and painting. He also enjoyed entering the ring for kick boxing and cage fighting in the Marshall, Battle Creek area.
He enjoyed volunteering at the local schools on the playground and with reading. He volunteered as a baseball coach for many years as well.
Rodney was a volunteer at Double Vision Center in Albion and had many years of service as security personnel at local Renaissance Faires.
He loved to go camping and sit around a bonfire. Rodney would put his own music to slide shows on his computer.
He will be missed for his giving and selfless attitude towards others.

Rodney is survived by his wife and soulmate; Melissa Hillman, his son; Drake Hillman of Marshall, Michigan, his mother-in-law; Marilyn Bloom of Lansing, Michigan, his siblings; Paula Gipson of Indiana and Brenda (Lance) VanZandt of Battle Creek, Michigan, his nephews; Jessie Gipson and Lance VanZandt, Jr. and his nieces; Aurora VanZandt and Grace VanZandt, his faithful service dog; Tyler. Rodney is also survived by his best friend Jayden JJ Nevins and several aunts, uncles and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Visitation for Rodney will be held on Thursday, June 3, 2021 from 4:30 until 6:00 PM at Kempf Family Funeral and Cremation Services 723 US Hwy 27 N, Marshall, Michigan 49068. The funeral service will follow at 6:00 PM at the funeral home with Pastor Melany Chalker officiating.
