Rodney Alan Hillman

Rodney Alan Hillman, age 63, of Marshall passed away May 30, 2019 at his residence.

Rodney was born on March 3, 1956 in Battle Creek to Thomas and Joyce (Smutek) Hillman. He graduated from Gull Lake High School with the class of 1974.

Rodney married Gail Jo Deer on March 13, 1976. They had 3 children and shared 28 loving years together before her passing in July of 2004.
Rodney worked as a postal carrier for the Ceresco Post Office. His career there spanned 25 years.

Rodney enjoyed panning for gold, camping, and golf. He liked working on cars and fixing anything broken. He was also a very active Assistant Scout Master for Troop 337 for seven years. Rodney enjoyed going to the casino, but most of all he cherished the time spent with his grandchildren.

Rodney is survived by his father, Thomas Hillman of Battle Creek; children, Rodney (Melissa) Hillman II of Marshall, Paula Jean Gipson of Millersburg, IN, and Brenda Marie (Lance) VanZandt of Battle Creek; grandchildren, Jessie Gipson, Lance VanZandt Jr., Aurora VanZandt, Grace VanZandt, and Drake Hillman; brothers, Thomas Hillman II, David Hillman, Kenneth Hillman, Daniel Hillman, Bruce Hillman, and Eric Hillman. He was preceded in death by his mother, Joyce Hillman; wife, Gail Hillman; and sister, Debra Hands.

Cremation has been conducted and a memorial service will take place at the Level Park Baptist Church, 3438 W Michigan Ave, Battle Creek, MI 49037, on Friday, June 14th, 2019 at 4:00PM.

Memorial contributions are requested to the family; checks payable to the children, Rodney Hillman II, Paula Gipson, or Brenda VanZandt.

The family is being served by the Kempf Family Funeral and Cremation Services, 723 Old US 27 North, Marshall Chapel.
