Richard Watson

Richard “Dick” Watson, age 80, of Marshall passed away Saturday, November 30, 2019 surrounded by his loving family. He was born August 16, 1939 in Corning, NY, the son of Leslie Watson and Wilma (Patterson) Watson. Richard was united in marriage with Roberta (Andrews) Watson on August 30, 1958. He graduated in 1957 from Addison High School, in Addison, NY, and then attended Oswego State (SUNY Oswego). He was employed with the former Corning Glass Works in Corning, NY. In 1969 he was transferred to the Corning plant in Albion, MI and the family moved to Marshall. In the early 1970s, he made a career change and found his true passion in selling real estate. He worked many years for Carroll A. Phillips Real Estate and Belcher Realty & Auction Co. Thereafter, he became a co-owner of Sherman Associates, a real estate company located in a historic building on the Fountain Circle which he took pride in continuing to preserve. He was dedicated to serving and promoting the Marshall community as a member of the Marshall Rotary Club, the Marshall Chamber of Commerce, and the Marshall District Library Board. He also was a long time, active member of the Marshall United Methodist Church. Richard is survived by his loving wife, Roberta Watson; his children, Julie Watson of California, Jodi (Jeff) Jordan of Georgia, and Lori (Mark Gardner) Watson of Marshall; four grandchildren, Emily (Adam) Toms, Abigail (Casey) Trester, Camden Gardner, and Greer Gardner; four great-grandchildren, Alexa-Grace Toms, Liam Toms, Anastasia Trester, and Oliver Trester; two sisters, Sally Fazzary and Vicki (Larry) Loucks; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Craig and Carol Andrews; a special nephew, Kenneth Michael Cunningham; and many other close family and friends. Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held later in the spring of 2020. Memorial gifts may be given to the Alzheimer’s Association, the American Cancer Society, the Marshall Community Foundation, or the Marshall District Library.
