Richard Russell Munster, age 75, of Battle Creek died Wednesday, December 25, 2019 at Glenn Arbor Hospice Residence Community.
Rick was born on October 1, 1944 in Kalamazoo, Michigan. He was raised in the Battle Creek area by his parents, Donald E. and Dorothy Marie (Mullen) Munster and attended Lakeview Public Schools. He proudly served in the United States Army in the late 1960’s. Following his stint in the army, Rick began a 36 years career with the Kellogg Company in Battle Creek. He retired in December of 1999.
In 1969, he married the former LeeAnn Dawson. She preceded him in death in May of 2005.
Rick was a very spiritual personal and attended several different churches along his journey in life. Among them was the First Evangelical United Brethren, the Chapel Hill United Methodist Church, the First Wesleyan Church and Calvary Baptist Church. He also was a very crafty man and enjoyed working with his hands. He crafted many gun holsters and knife sheaths made of leather. He also tinkered in woodworking. Rick designed and made many of the western shirts that he proudly wore.
Rick enjoyed riding his Harley Davidson Motorcycle. In his youth, he owned and raised an Arabian Horse names Falcon. He was a member of the National Rifle Association.
He is survived by a brother, Ron (Esther) Munster of Battle Creek; and a sister, Carol Jean Smoke-Ventrell of Fredericksburg, VA; 2 nieces and 2 nephews and numerous great nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, LeeAnn and parents, Donald and Dorothy Munster.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, January 2, 2020 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at the Battle Creek Chapel of the Kempf Family Funeral Homes and Cremation Services. A funeral service to celebrate the gift of his life will be held 11:00 AM at the funeral home. Interment will follow in Newton Cemetery.
