Patricia Julia (Groney) Hill

August 27, 1927 — September 14, 2020

Patricia Julia Hill, age 93, of Marshall and formerly of Albion died Monday morning, September 14, 2020 at Maplewood of Marshall.

She was born August 2, 1927, in Huntington Park, California and moved to Dearborn, Michigan with her parents, Scholastica (Bruzdzinski) and Lucius Groney when she was ten years old.

She graduated from Fordson High School and attended Wayne State University before graduating from Northern Illinois College of Optometry, where she met and married Jack F. Hill. They had four children, all born in Albion.

Dr. Hill practiced with her husband in Albion and Jackson for 46 years. She specialized in children's vision. She developed a Pre-School Vision Test for the Mast/Keystone company which is still used in pediatric practices.

Dr. Hill acted as liaison from the Michigan Optometric Association to the Michigan Department of Public Health, where she acted as advisor to the pre-school and school vision screening programs for the State of Michigan. She contributed a number of articles on Children's Vision to professional journals. She was a member of the American Optometric Association, the Michigan Optometric Association, and a Fellow of the American Academy of Optometry.

Dr. Hill received a Bachelor's degree in Psychology from Albion College in 1974, where she designed a Perceptual Reversal Test for young children.

She was a past president of the Business and Professional Women of Albion, receiving Woman of the year award in 1982. She was a member of the Albion branch of AAUW, past president of Albion Community Theatre, a member of the E.L.T. club of Albion, the Duck Lake Country Club, and a member of the National House Bridge Club in Marshall, Michigan.
Her hobbies were flying her own Cessna airplane, painting, and figure skating. She was a member of the choir of St. James' Episcopal Church of Albion and a member of St. James for 55 years. Since 2002, she has attended the Trinity Episcopal Church of Marshall.

Dr. Hill is survived by children; sons, Michael (Karen) Hill of Duck Lake and Richard Hill of Tampa, Florida; daughters, Suzanne (John) Bedient of Duck Lake and Nanette (Joseph) Hibler of Duck Lake. She is also survived by eight grandchildren. Sarah (Mike) Wasielewski, Abigail (James Palmer) Bedient, Blake (Kaitlynn) Hill, Drew (Jessica) Hill, Janna Hibler, Daniel (Celeste) Hibler, Jeffry Hill and Misty Hill; and 5 great grandchildren, Cooper and Blaire Wasielewski, Parker and Piper Hibler and Aedan Hibler.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Scholastica and Lucius Groney, and husband, Dr. Jack F. Hill (2013).

The family will receive friends on Thursday evening, September 17, 2020 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the Kempf Family Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 723 US Hwy 27 N, Marshall, MI 49068 ** Due to the Covid 19 Pandemic, face masks and social distancing is required. A private family service will be held at the funeral home with The Reverend Mother Ann Schnaare officiating. A Public Celebration service will be held at a later date.

Friends who wish may make memorial contributions to the Trinity Episcopal Church. Assistance with memorials is available at the church or through the funeral home.
