Nancy Lou (Urban) Stone

Nancy Lou (Urban) Stone, most recently of Maplewood Assisted Living of Marshall, passed peacefully into the loving care of Jesus on July 22, 2021.

She was born January 1, 1932, the daughter of Louis and Irene Urban in Detroit, Michigan.

She graduated from Denby High School where she met the love of her life, Bud (Edmund) Stone. They married November 11, 1950.

For the most part, Nancy was a stay at home mother and wife, but she enjoyed employment at the Detroit Institute of Arts where she worked as a docent, and in later years at Dr. Hull's dentistry practice in St. Clair Shores.

Nancy is survived by her four children, Sally (Carl) Bulgarelli, Jan Schmerheim, Robert (Pam) Stone, Ronald Stone; grandchildren Todd Bulgarelli, Brianna (Kelly) Peterson; Jamie (Megan Diaz) Schmerheim, Megan (Tim) Mathis; Kelsey (Trevor Huss) Stone, Shannon and Ashley Stone; Jordan and Jillian Stone. She is also survived by great-grandchildren Kaden, Gavin, and Kenna Peterson; Luke, Tristan, and Avery Mathis; and Joanna Schmerheim. Her best friend from childhood, Mary Beth Smith, also survives. She is pre-deceased by her parents, husband Bud, sister Patricia Urban Walters, granddaughter Erin Stone, and six stillborn babies.

Nancy was an excellent self-taught seamstress, and for a time did custom tailoring and fashions. Her love for sewing transitioned to quilting, and she was member of the Greater Blue Water Quilt Guild and Michigan Quilt Network. At the height of her quilting passion, she owned 5 sewing machines, and used every one of them. She also had about 7,432 fat quarters stored in numerous "secret" places.
Live plays, not movies, were also a delight for Nancy. She was an enthusiastic volunteer usher at Detroit's Fisher Theater. Other than her family, which she cherished more than life itself, Nancy loved the cottage on Stag Island, Canada, that her parents bought when she was a young girl. She spent summers there throughout her life, passing on her love for Cottage #1 to succeeding generations. In fact, in their later years, she and Bud moved from their home in St. Clair Shores to Marysville, Michigan, where if you peered out the front window, you could see the tip of the island.

Nancy's passing has left a hole in the universe. She will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and the order operators of QVC.

According to her wishes, Nancy has been cremated. There will be a Funeral Mass on Friday, July 30, 2021, at 11:00am at St. Lucy Catholic Church in St. Clair Shores.
